PEM Electrolysis

Water electrolysis is a technology that uses electricity to separate water into hydrogen.
Hyundai Motor Group is focusing on PEMEC (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Electrolysis Cell), as its core technology among various water electrolysis technologies.

PEMEC is the most suitable method for high-purity hydrogen production,
using a polymer electrolyte membrane that selectively allows only hydrogen ions to pass through.

High Energy Efficiency and Rapid Responsiveness

PEM Electrolysis offers high energy efficiency and rapid reponsiveness, enabling flexible adaptation to renewable energy fluctuations for clean hydrogen production.

  • High-Purity Hydrogen Production

Suitable for fuel cell vehicles and industrial applications

  • Installation & Operational Efficiency

High energy efficiency and current density increase output

  • Load-Following Capability

Responds quickly to renewable energy intermittency

  • High Technology Linkage

Component-sharing with Hyundai fuel cell systems improves scalability

High Technology Linkage

PEM electrolysis cells utilize the same PEM(Polymer Electrolyte Membrane) as Hyundai’s fuel cells
and produces hydrogen in the reverse reaction of the fuel cell reaction
